Empyrean's User Support AI Innovations
We're enhancing our user experience with cutting-edge AI solutions to deliver faster, smarter, and more personalized assistance to better serve our clients' populations.
Speaker 1 (00:01): At Empyrean Benefits, we're planning key enhancements to our conversational AI to provide even better support and a more intuitive experience for employees. First, we are focused on improving annual enrollment support. The AI assistant will be able to help employees with precise enrollment dates, share links to the enrollment flow, and provide definitions of key terms, making it easier to understand their benefit options. For new hires, we're looking to make a proactive experience. When first time users log in or are identified from an EDF file, the AI assistant will prompt them with guidance to begin benefits enrollment, to help with documentation needs, employees will be able to find out the status of submitted documents by checking in with the AI assistant, it will confirm receipt, approval, denial, or request additional info as needed. Employees will also be able to inquire about required documentation and get submission how-tos.
(00:56) Our planned medical plan support updates will let employees easily obtain personalized info on eligibility coverage, deductibles out-of-pocket costs, and ID card requests. We're also enhancing life event support, enabling employees to get guidance from the AI assistant on updating benefits for qualifying events such as marriage, birth, or retirement. Our planned preemptive support features include personalized greetings and helpful nudges to assist employees with site navigation. Finally, we'll be introducing multi-language support, allowing employees to interact with the AI assistant in their preferred language to enhance understanding and accessibility. These updates showcase Empyrean's commitment to a more supportive and accessible experience. We can't wait to bring them to life to better serve employees needs.
Behind the Firewall: A Candid Talk with the CITO on Empyrean’s Data Security Strategies

Speaker 1 (00:08): My name is Kelly Clark, and I'm the CITO. So Chief Information and Technology Officer at Empyrean. I've been in this space for quite some time. Empyrean should be proud of its technical stack. A lot of the organizations that I've had experience with are suffering from quite a bit of technical debt. Perhaps their security posture isn't as strong as it needs to be. And as I looked at joining Empyrean, and I did look across the market, and I was really impressed with the amount of investment they put into their core platform, how they're thinking about security, their focus on product, and then their focus on operations and service excellence. So all of those things combined, I think make us the preeminent benefits admin platform and service offering in the industry.
(01:09) Data privacy is in the forefront of everybody's mind. You go online every day. Some people still get the newspaper, believe it or not, but there's an article about a breach and a breach and a breach. So data security and security in general is super, super important, not only at the individual level, but at the employer group level. I'm really proud to say that Empyrean is in a very, very good spot. Our security model or framework is structured around the HIPAA framework, and from there, we drop down into the NIST cybersecurity framework. And the NIST cybersecurity framework is utilized by most companies in most industries, at any size and any scale. And so it's important for us to capitalize on nist, really think about three pillars, confidentiality, data integrity, and then data accessibility.
(02:14) Our security strategy is really focused in on a framework that handles both physical and technical security, and it's built on those three pillars of confidentiality, integrity, and availability. When you think about security maturity, we often get asked for our SOC one or our SOC two. As part of the RFP process, we've decided as an organization to enhance our security governance model, our framework, and our maturity by going down the ISO certification road. On top of that, we bring in a third party who's doing a complete audit of our security model. They're looking at our governance structure, they're looking at our framework, they're looking at our roadmap, they're looking at our investments, and they're scoring us directly against the N framework.
(03:06) Everybody has different reasons for moving to the cloud. If you think about it from our perspective, we often get asked, what's your cloud strategy? Are you moving to the cloud or you're already in the cloud? Our answer is yes, yes, and yes. We're doing it for some very specific reasons. Provides organizational agility for us around innovation. Bringing products to market allows us to scale our resources in a much quicker way, provides us cost efficiency. Fosters innovation at the end of the day, provides a much more stable base for business continuity planning, disaster recovery. And so if you are an employer group, you're feeling really good that Empyrean gone to the cloud, that if something major was to happen, our operations would continue to operate. Their employees would've access to the resources and tools and services that we provide them. And so for us, it's fundamentally about innovation, bringing new product to market, elasticity, reliability. Those are the fundamental reasons we're moving to the cloud and we believe in it. So our data operations process, second and none in the industry now, that lends itself to security, and we're a leader. We're an emerging leader with an 800 plus score as a bid site rating. So you couple that with the compliance components around our SOC and iso, our transmission encryption, our rest encryption, and our fundamental focus on security. That's why you should trust us with your data.
